Trani (BAT) - Apulia

A city with a truly ancient history, Trani is a town on the Apulian coast that has been able to preserve intact its rich historical and architectural heritage.

Characterized by a charming and ancient port, the town of Trani is also known as the "pearl of the Adriatic" for its unparalleled beauty. There is not much information about the origins of the city what we know is that after the Roman domination, Trani was dominated by Byzantines, Lombards and Normans.

From the thirteenth to the fifteenth century the city experienced a golden age thanks to the presence of a thriving port that made Trani an important commercial center. In the sixteenth century the city became a Venetian domain and was enriched thanks to trade, but then went through years of decline during the Aragonese rule.

The port of Trani, in fact, has suffered a rapid decline because of the opening of the new commercial routes towards the Americas that have put in the background those Mediterranean. During World War II the city suffered heavy bombing, especially in the port area, but managed to preserve much of its architectural heritage. Thanks to its thousand-year history and numerous sites of interest, Trani is currently the ideal destination for all those who want to organize a trip full of history and culture.
