The Church of Santa Sofia is a religious complex symbol of the Lombard presence, it represents one of the most beautiful and important gems of Lombardy and figure from June 2011 in the UNESCO heritage.

 

It was built in 760 after Christ and consecrated fourteen years later, in 774, and was commissioned by Arechi II who wanted to dedicate this beautiful abbey, to the foundation of a women’s monastery, led by his sister Gariperga. The Church, following donations and legacies, became one of the most powerful in southern Italy, not only for its monumental, but also for its "scriptorium" where the Beneventan script became famous in the world.
